Improve capacity, roadway safety and efficiency. |

Scope of Work |
|
FDOT is widening I-95 from six lanes to ten lanes along this section, a length
of approximately 3.35 miles. The work includes widening the existing bridge
over 12th Avenue South, demolition of the pedestrian overpass north of
Lantana Road, and modification of the mainline ramps. The project will
also include drainage improvements, sound barrier walls, retaining walls,
signing and pavement marking, lighting, landscaping, irrigation and communications
elements. |

Maintenance of Traffic |
|
Lane closures on I-95 will only occur at night when traffic volumes are lighter.
Three thru lanes will be maintained at all times from 5:30 am to 8:00
pm. Also there will be ramp closure at the intersection of Gateway Blvd,
Lantana Road, and Hypoluxo Road. One ramp at a time will be closed for
a period of 20 to 40 days each as the ramps are reconstructed. Advance
warning of ramp work will be provided. |

Construction Phasing |

Phase I |
|
North of Hypoluxo Road and south of 6th Avenue South noise walls along east
sides of I-95 and north of Lantana Road will be constructed in this phase.
Traffic will be shifted towards the outside of the existing roadway to
accommodate the temporary road and bridge construction in the existing
median. A temporary closure of I-95 northbound and southbound will be
necessary to remove the pedestrian overpass north of Lantana Road. The
closure will take place during off-peak hours, one night for each side,
starting January 6, 2002.

Phase II |
|
North of Hypoluxo Road and south of 6th Avenue South. Northbound traffic will
be diverted to the newly constructed median area as the road and bridge
improvements on the northbound side of I-95 are constructed.

Phase III |
|
North of Hypoluxo Road and south of 6th Avenue South. Southbound traffic will
be diverted to the previously constructed median, and the northbound traffic
will be on the newly constructed northbound roadway area as the road and
bridge improvements on the southbound side of I-95 are constructed.

Phase IV |
|
North of Hypoluxo Road and south of 6th Avenue South. Complete the construction
of the road in the median as northbound and southbound traffic use the
newly constructed roadway. All work from Lantana Road to the 12th Avenue
bridge will be completed in this phase.

Phase V |
|
South of Gateway Boulevard to south of Lantana. Complete the construction of
the road in the median as northbound and southbound traffic is towards
the outside of the existing roadway.

Phase VI |
|
South of Gateway Boulevard to south of Lantana. Traffic will be shifted to
the new median as the road improvements on the existing northbound and
southbound takes place. Also the I-95 on and off ramps at Gateway Blvd,
Hypoluxo Road, and Lantana Road will be reconstructed on this phase.

Phase VII |
|
Complete the remainder of all ramps with ramp closures. Only one ramp will
be closed at any given time. Ramps will be close for a period of 20 to
40 days.

Phase VIII |
|
Shift traffic to final configuration as the roadway is resurfaced on existing
northbound and southbound I-95. Work will take place during off peak hours
with temporary lane closures.

|
Over 585,258 pounds of steel will be used
to build the bridge over 12th Avenue South.
Over 34.8 miles of temporary barrier wall will be used during construction.
Over 252,577 square yards of limerock base will be use on this project.
That's the equivalent to 4.5 football fields. |
