Construction Timeline |
|
Begin Construction: July 2004
End Construction: February 2008 |
 |
Maintenance of Traffic |
|
Lane closures on I-95 will only occur at night when traffic volumes are
lighter. Three thru lanes will be maintained at all times from 5:30 am
to 8:00 pm. There will also be ramp closures as follows:
Southbound I-95 to 6th Avenue South off-ramp
– 190 days
6th Avenue South to Southbound I-95 on-ramp – 148 days
Northbound I-95 to 6th Avenue South off-ramp – 119 days
6th Avenue South to Northbound I-95 on-ramp – 167 days
10th Avenue North to Southbound I-95 on-ramp – 24 days
Advance warning of ramp work will be provided.
Full closure of 6th Avenue will be allowed in the immediate proximity
of the bridge (South “A” Street to Barber Avenue) between the hours of
9:00 pm and 6:00 am for bridge demolition, beam placements, and deck pours
for the new bridge. Detour plans
shall be implemented to accommodate both directions of traffic during
the times of full closure. |
 |
Construction Phasing |
|
Phase I |
|
This phase will begin with the construction of the Lake Worth
High School off-site parking lots. No
work will begin on I-95 until the LWHS parking lots are completed. Noise walls along the east side of I-95 between
12th Avenue North and 6th Avenue South and between Lake Worth Road and
10th Avenue will be constructed. I-95
Traffic will be shifted towards the outside of the existing roadway to
accommodate the temporary road construction in the existing median. Lake Worth Road will be milled and resurfaced
and widened to the outside and reconstruction of 6th Avenue eastbound
roadway will be done in this phase. |
|
Phase II- |
|
Southbound traffic will be diverted to the newly constructed median area
as the road and bridge improvements on the southbound side of I-95 are
constructed. Ramps on the southbound
side of I-95 will be reconstructed. Closures
for those ramps will be during this phase. Construction of 6th Avenue westbound roadway
and Lake Worth Road median construction will be done in this phase. |
|
Phase III |
|
Northbound traffic will be diverted to the previously constructed median,
and the southbound traffic will be on the newly constructed southbound
roadway area as the road and bridge improvements on the northbound side
of I-95 are constructed. Ramps
on the northbound side of I-95 will be reconstructed. Closures for those ramps will be during this
phase. Construction of 6th Avenue
median will be done in this phase. |
|
Phase IV |
|
Complete the construction of the road in the median as northbound and
southbound traffic use the newly constructed roadway. |
 |
Factoids |
|
Over 3 million pounds of steel and 17 million
pounds of concrete will be used to widen the Lake Worth Viaduct bridge.
Over 175 miles of permanent and temporary striping will be used—enough
to reach from West Palm Beach to Orlando!
There are 138 lights in only a 1.8 mile stretch of roadway.
